  • Have applied for OSAP, its equivalent in other provinces, or be DIA students.
  • Have taken at least 6 credits at the University of Sudbury in this year or last year.
  • You must fill out and submit an application before the deadline!

Scholarships and bursaries


THE SACRED HEART COLLEGE ALUMNI BURSARY
This bursary is awarded to a francophone student, was founded in 1969 by the Sudbury Chapter of the alumni of Collège du Sacré-Coeur.

THE J.A. LAPALME BURSARIES
These bursaries awarded to one francophone and one anglophone student, recall Mr. J.A. Lapalme of Sudbury, who died in 1969.

THE CHARLES DAVIS MEMORIAL AWARDS

A legacy of Mr. Charles Davis of Sudbury, who died in 1973, these bursaries are awarded preferably to students preparing for Catholic Ministry or concentrating in Religious Studies.

THE HECTOR L. BERTRAND BURSARIES

This fund, begun by his friends in 1976 to honour Rev. Hector L. Bertrand s.j., is intended for Native students enrolled at the University of Sudbury.

THE J.W.E. NEWBERY BURSARIES
Honouring the founder of the Department of Native Studies since 1979, these bursaries are for students enrolled in a concentration in that department.

THE ROSE DAVIS MEMORIAL AWARDS
Recalling Mrs. Rose Davis of Sudbury, who died in 1983, these bursaries are for all categories of students.

THE RICHARD RIOPEL MEMORIAL AWARD

Founded in 1987, this bursary recalls Richard Riopel, former Principal of Hanmer Secondary School. It is awarded to a francophone student, preferably a graduate of Hanmer Secondary School.

THE HON. GEORGE E. COLLINS MEMORIAL AWARD
This bursary is awarded to a student in the junior years, enrolled at the University of Sudbury, and studying at the School of Sports Administration or in the department of Law and Justice. It was founded in 1994 by his family and his many friends to recall the Hon. Judge George E. Collins of Sudbury (1914-1994).

THE ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING CHAPTER OF THE I.O.D.E. SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student in recognition of the volunteer help offered by the students of the Lucien Matte Residence.

THE CAROLE LANGLOIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship, awarded to a full-time student, recalls Mme Carole Langlois of Espanola who died in 1990.

THE JEAN-d’AUTEUIL RICHARD SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship, awarded to a full-time student, was founded in 1992 by his friends to recall Rev. Jean-d’Auteuil Richard’s Presidency, 1966-1977.

THE ALFREDO PAGNUTTI SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship awarded since 1993, is a legacy of Mr. Alfredo Pagnutti of Sudbury, who was a member of the Board of Regents, 1960-1977.

THE RICHARD AND RUTH FEE FOUNDATION
The generosity of Richard and Ruth McGinnis Fee, who were well-known and respected citizens of Sudbury, has since 1966 enabled the University of Sudbury to offer a substantial number of scholarships and bursaries to students of the University of Sudbury.

THE BISHOP ALEXANDER CARTER SCHOLARSHIPS
In 1993 the Bishop Alexander Carter Charitable Fund established these scholarships in honour of Bishop Carter, who was Bishop of Sault Sainte-Marie Diocese between 1958 and 1985 and Chancellor of the University of Sudbury between 1960 and 1986. They are awarded to anglophone and francophone as well as native full time students who are in their 3rd or 4th year, and who have achieved the highest “A” average in at least three courses (18 credits) of a given discipline taught at the University of Sudbury.

THE FONDATION SACRÉ-COEUR
The Fondation Sacré-Coeur manages a bursary fund consisting of donations made over the years to Collège du Sacré-Coeur to help students in financial need.

THE MSGR AUGUSTE VAILLANCOURT AWARDS
Msgr Vaillancourt (1909-1991), a priest of the diocese of Sault Sainte-Marie Diocese served for many years as Pastor at Sacré-Coeur, Parish in Sturgeon Falls. A devoted alumnus of Collège du Sacré-Coeur he set aside monies over the years to help young Franco-Ontarians from the diocese receive a university education.

THE CHARLES LANGLOIS BURSARIES

These bursaries were set up thanks to a legacy of Fr. Charles Langlois (1863-1919), who died as Pastor of Sacré-Coeur Parish in Sturgeon Falls. They were intended to help French Canadians pursue their studies.

THE MSGR STÉPHANE CÔTÉ AWARDS
Between March 1931 and his death in July 1952, Msgr Côté regularly contributed to setting up these Awards. He was Pastor of St-Joseph’s Parish in Chelmsford and a staunch supporter of the educational ideals proposed at Collège du Sacré-Coeur. With the awards, he wished to help young French-speaking Ontarians from this diocese afford a university education.

THE MSGR CHARLES PARENT AWARDS
In 1940 Msgr Parent, then Pastor at Saint-François-Xavier Parish in Tilbury, Ontario, began this fund to help Francophones from the London diocese complete their higher education in Sudbury.

THE ALBERT PELLETIER SCHOLARSHIP
Fr. Albert Pelletier was Pastor of Saint-Michel Parish in Rouyn, Québec, when he donated this scholarship in 1944. He intended it to help young Francophones from north-western Quebec.

THE HENRI GAUTHIER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Fr. Henri Gauthier, s.j. (1879-1958) was on the Faculty of Collège du Sacré-Coeur from 1916 to 1952 as Professor of Science and of Letters, Dean of Studies, and Spiritual Advisor. His many students and grateful admirers set up this fund to help perpetuate his ideals and his memory.

THE MSGR RACETTE AWARDS

Msgr Oscar Racette (1880-1964), was involved in the founding of Collège du Sacré-Coeur in 1913 and continued over the years to be a strong promoter of its mission. While Pastor at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Parish in Verner, he made repeated donations, in 1953 and 1954, to help young French Canadians.

THE MSGR ZÉPHIRIN LORRAIN SCHOLARSHIP
In February 1954, Msgr Lorrain, then Pastor of Sainte-Bernadette Parish in Bonfield, Ontario set up a fund to allow deserving teenage francophones of the Pembroke Diocese to continue studies in French in Sudbury.

THE MÉLINA LÉVESQUE BURSARIES

Convinced of the importance of higher education, Mme Mélina Lévesque left a legacy to Collège du Sacré-Coeur to attract French-Canadian youth from the Sault Sainte-Marie Diocese.

THE LOUISIANA LEFEBVRE AWARDS

At the time of her death in March 1962, Mme Louisiana Lefebvre willed to the Collège du Sacré-Coeur a legacy to help young people of the Sault Sainte-Marie Diocese complete their studies.
