It is my pleasure as President to welcome you to the University of Sudbury – one of Northern Ontario's longest-standing post-secondary institutions. This web site is designed to provide information for prospective students or their parents, current students, alumni or friends of the University. If you don't find what you need here, we want to hear from you. Please contact us at (705) 673-5661 ext. 317 or at usudreg@usudbury.ca .
We are very proud of the bilingual and tri-cultural tradition of the University of Sudbury and of its Jesuit heritage.
We remain committed to a focus on a liberal education as the gateway to a productive, thoughtful, and worthwhile life. As a proud member of the Laurentian University Federation, the University of Sudbury offers an intimate learning environment in small classes and a vibrant residence community in the context of a large, full service comprehensive university. We are also committed to making a liberal education financially accessible by providing scholarships and bursaries to our students. We offer programs and courses in five areas. For all those who are interested in or who need to understand First Nations' worldviews, our Native Studies Department offers courses in language, culture and public policy. Our Department of Religious Studies offers courses in a variety of religious studies fields as part of a joint department with colleagues at Huntington and Thorneloe universities. The Department of Philosophy provides a wide range of courses and research opportunities in the Ethics Centre, which works on practical applications of ethics (for example, medical bio-ethics). Our French-language departments are Communication publique and Folklore. Communications prepare students for carrers in journalism and public relations. Folklore offers courses emphazing French Canadian society in Ontario and elsewhere. All our programs are offered by approachable and highly competent professors and lecturers who care deeply about student learning. Our relationship to our alumni is very important to us and we welcome contacts from them as well as their participation in the life of the University. We look forward to continuing to engage our alumni through activities such as trips abroad (like the recent trip to Spain) and helping students find internships. Alumni can reach us at usudburyalumni@usudbury.ca . So, welcome to the University of Sudbury – I hope to see you soon! Dr. Pierre Zundel
